ALL ABOUT STEVE!
Steve Simkins was born on a rainy day in the spring of the late 60’s. Soon after, he began exploring his talents for memorizing Steve Martin comedy routines, jumping his bicycle over neighborhood children and performing magic tricks for friends. Sadly, Steve’s dreams of becoming a hilarious, motocross-riding magician were never fully realized.
However, his desire for storytelling matured over the years. From the mid-80s, where he worked his way through college as a Boise, ID TV news live camera operator, to the late 80’s at the University of Idaho where he operated live cameras and directed Vandal football and basketball games and post shows, to the early 90’s at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise where he created videos and photos for every imaginable hospital process and event (just ask him sometime during lunch to tell his surgery video stories), Steve found his niche for creating authentic, creative, fantastic documentary storytelling.
For the next 20 years or so, Steve produced and directed videos at North By Northwest Productions in Boise. He worked with some of the most talented video people in the west, worked for volumes of varied corporate and ad agency clients and honed his craft for helping businesses to tell their story through the magic of video. Throughout those years at NXNW, Steve helped to create literally thousands of videos and commercials regionally and worldwide.
Today, Steve is directing, producing, writing, shooting and editing videos for his own business, Simkins Films. While his ability to tell a hilarious dad joke is debatable and his cruiser bicycle rarely leaves the ground, Steve is constantly exploring his creative energy and eye for top-notch, authentic documentary storytelling. Really, it’s all just magic…right?
